Ethics
A special Grand Jury found glaring ethical lapses surrounding recent land purchases at inflated prices to benefit politically-connected friends of Commissioners. The Commission Chairman, who recently resigned to avoid indictment for perjury, had been cited and paid fines for multiple violations of campaign finance law. Public confidence and trust in our county officials is at an all-time low.
In 2007, a consultant examined Gwinnett’s ethics policy and found it lacking in several notable areas. The consultant recommended improvements including the creation of a standing panel to accept and investigate complaints.
The County Commission ignored the recommendation.
SaveGwinnett believes that a strong and enforceable ethics policy will improve the quality of individuals who serve and, thereby, the quality of life in our county. SaveGwinnett is forming a citizen group to make recommendations on a revised ethics policy and your input is essential! More info
